LOS ANGELES, Feb 20 — A Los Angeles judge ruled today that Michael Jackson’s father can have access to a portion of the dead pop star’s medical records, which might be used in a possible wrongful death lawsuit.

Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Mitchell Beckloff said Joe Jackson can hire a medical expert to review records from the hospital where his pop singer son was taken after suffering cardiac arrest due to a drug overdose in June last year.

The medical expert will not be allowed to divulge the contents of the medical records publicly, the judge said.

Los Angeles prosecutors have charged Michael Jackson’s physician, Dr Conrad Murray, with involuntary manslaughter in the death of the “Thriller” singer.

Murray has pleaded not guilty to the charge, but he has admitted giving the singer the powerful anesthetic propofol as a sleep aid on the day Jackson died.

Jackson’s family members have not publicly said they are planning a wrongful death civil suit, but several including Joe Jackson have said Murray should face more serious charges. — Reuters
